Self calibration is NEEDED to actually get good results. Basically grey scale tracking is vital because once you find the perfect combination all primay colors you get the perfect grey - and that will ensure that your HDTV is doing the most accurate colours possible. too complicated (need crazy equipment to do it) to do on your own. Also black levels and greyscale tracking. You cannot tweak this at all without going into the service menus. But unfortunalty like Ive said before a lot of the things you want done cannot be done without going into the service menus, a big problem with all HDTVs is that the white levels have blue in them, this gives them that "whiter than white" look. Not sure I'd pay somebody to come out for such a small inexpensive set, but if I'd just laid down a few thousand notes for a high-end HDTV, I'd probably let a professional come in a do it for me.Įxactly, the job you can do (If you do it properly with the know how) by yourself is excellent! And it makes your HDTV much better and more accurate. Anyway, with a combination of that DVD and access to the "hidden" engineering menu, we managed to do a pretty damn good job of calibrating his TV, and even with us amateurs, it was like watching a different set! He has a 26" Samsung LCD, and while the image looked good, it was too vivid with a lot of red push. A mate of mine recently bought "Digital Video Essentials" that also came with colour filters.
